Biography
Byung-Jin (Robert) Park started his doctoral studies in August 2006. Before joining the program, he worked for the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) in Seoul, Korea, for 15 years. His work experiences span a variety of areas, including international relations (focusing on China and Japan), industrial analysis, corporate policy, and social affairs.
He has taught "Business Policy and Strategy (MGT 4393)" at Virginia Tech from summer 2007. As an assistant leader of "Study Abroad in Japan and Korea," he arranged the schedules in Korea for two years (2007 and 2008). He also taught "Elementary Korean (FL 2984)" in the fall semester of 2007.
His research interests include the effects of alliance portfolio on firm innovation, firm competitive actions, technology management, and international strategy. He seeks to understand the role of relational resources (learning and knowledge transfer through alliances and networks) and competitive attributes (resource similarity and market commonality) among partners on firm innovation. His current research interests fall in the dynamics of co-opetition (simultaneous collaboration and competition among firms) in the context of technological innovation. He is a member of the Academy of Management.
