Our mission is to create and disseminate knowledge in management while building on the complementary strengths of our faculty. Our fields of research and teaching expertise include strategy, entrepreneurship, technology management, international business, social issues and ethics, diversity, human resource management, industrial relations, leadership and organizational behavior. We strive to build the highest quality research and teaching programs to contribute to the status of the Pamplin College of Business and Virginia Tech and to provide our students with a premier business education.
Our Undergraduate Management Major prepares men and women to be effective managers in the global economy with an entrepreneurial approach to business. We emphasize the development of versatile skills that are essential to achieve organizational goals: analytical problem-solving, communication skills, cross-functional thinking, leadership, ethical decision-making, and team work. Our undergraduate management major offers options in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Technology Management (EIT) and Human Resource Management (HRM), and Management Consulting and Analysis (MCA). We also offer the Business Leadership Minor, Business Diversity Minor, and Entrepreneurship - New Venture Growth to students throughout the University. At the MBA level, our programs of study both provide a strong foundation in core elements of management as well as help students to develop an interdisciplinary managerial perspective.
Our doctoral program produces graduates who will be among the next generation of research faculty at top academic institutions. The curriculum emphasizes a solid foundation in strategic management, organization theory, organizational behavior, human resource management and ethics and social responsibility. Students can specialize in any of these areas.
The department houses the Business Diversity Center and the Business Leadership Center.
